Winter wines for the rain!

It rained, it's been a winter, so let's all just get a little cozy for a while.

Although it feels like we must be much further into this year, it is still January and we got the rain we've been begging for. This much needed reminder of winter got us thinking about a couple wines not to miss this season.

Mas Cal Demoura makes a wine called Terre de Jonquieres, and it is pure Southern French heaven.

A magical alchemy of the classic regional grapes Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and Carignan. This wine is historic, and a bit of a local celebrity. The family that makes this wine, the Goumards, meticulously farm the vineyard to create a kind of magically pleasing red blend. A little cherry, herb, and a dusting of pepper; it’s one of those that hits all the marks – plush, ripe, still a little tension, and delightfully drinkable.

Descendientes de J. Palacios' Pétalos is great for Pinot Noir fans looking for something cozy.

From a Spanish wine dynasty, this deeply rooted red is finely tuned, with a touch of spice and everything nice. Polished with traditional style, this wine has a sense of place and history. Made mostly of Mencía, a red grape known almost exclusively to this remote corner of northwestern Spain, this wine is medium bodied with a soft floral and red plum flavor.
