Drinking red wines… chilled?

Drinking red wines… chilled?

As the weather warms up, we’re reaching for something cool – and not just white wines and rosés. It may feel a bit faux pas, but many red wines can be refreshing, even thirst-quenching, with a light chill.

We’re talking fruit-forward red wines (as opposed to savory wines) that are lower in alcohol and lower in tannins. Serving them chilled enhances their fresh and juicy flavors. Generally speaking, pale or lighter-colored reds are a good choice because they spend less time on the skins and have lower levels of tannins.

Quick tip: Cool down a wine by popping it the fridge for 30 minutes before serving. Or put it in an ice bucket with water (water is the key!) for about 7 minutes before opening.

While Grenache, Beaujolais, and lighter Pinot Noirs are all good choices, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention what we’re drinking this season😉

Mas Castello, Carbonica

This wine is all Syrah, but dances around like a Pinot Noir. Fresh and light-bodied (aka perfect for serving chilled), this is a subtle, cheery version of Syrah - fresh cherries instead of cooked pie filling and green peppercorn berries instead of cracked black pepper.
