Schützenhof | Funkelbunt
A rebel white blend for the foodie
This wine is just about as fun to drink as it is to say – ‘funkelbunt’ – which translates to ‘colorful field blend.’ this wine shows off how wonderful it is to be a grape in this vineyard. Clearly – everyone gets along! Six different white grape varieties were handpicked and fermented together on the skins to create a juicy, slightly savory white that’s just about the best food pairing wine you can buy. Bright, juicy, peach skins and sourdough toast.
White field blend of 6 varietals, primarily Welschriesling and Weissburgunder
Fabulous with root vegetables: young turnips, beets, or roasted carrots. The earthy sweetness of both the wine and the vegetables will sing. Try with sweet creamy dishes like fettuccini alfredo or butternut squash risotto.
7th generation winemakers, Markus Faulhammer and his wife, took over this historic family vineyard with a determination to resurrect old techniques and make a name for long-forgotten and controversial varietals. The vineyard and production are all certified organic and their labels read like a novel – with hidden messaging and symbolism throughout. Actively farmed since 1816, this vineyard used to be part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and has lived many lifetimes.
