If Pinot Noir is the elegant, well-traveled friend who knows all the best wine bars, Valdiguié is the laid-back one who shows up to the picnic with a frisbee and a chilled bottle. Both wines are light-bodied reds with bright acidity with a knack for food pairings. But while Pinot Noir charms with its silky texture, Valdiguié delivers a punch of wild berries, tart cherry, and a touch of violet, with a juicy, almost electric freshness. It’s a thirst-quenching vibe that’s great with a slight chill, or even cellar temp for a more serious expression. 100% carbonic maceration makes this wine like a California Nouveau (like a fresh Beaujolais!)
Delicious With
Similar to Gamay or Beaujolais wine, this is incredible with cheese and charcuterie! Great with salted fish like Brandade or salted cod Bacalao, crispy fried chicken, pasta with sausage or light tomato sauce, and a variety of cheeses like fresh or aged goat or sheep cheese and intense cow’s milk cheeses like Raclette or Reblochon.
Their Cred
Outward Wines is the brainchild of Ryan Pace and Natalie Siddique, a pair whose partnership began not in the vineyard, but on a rock face-they met through rock climbing and quickly discovered a shared passion for adventure and wine. Natalie, is a rock climbing celebrity and former business owner, while Ryan comes from a winemaking family and studied at Cal Poly before cutting his teeth at Byron winery. Outward started with just two barrels of Syrah from Ryan’s father’s backyard vineyard, but now it’s their full-time pursuit, producing about 2,500 cases a year from single-vineyard, organically farmed sites along California’s Central Coast. They farm some of their own vines and source others, always with a focus on low-intervention, wild-yeast fermentations and no fining or filtration. Their Grover Beach winery is also a gathering spot for vinyl and wine parties, reflecting their love of music, community, and good times.
Both winemaking teams are united by a sense of curiosity, a commitment to organic farming, and a love for the unconventional-making wines that are as expressive and adventurous as their own journeys.
