Outward | Valdiguié

Watermelon Airheads, without the sweet

From a vineyard planted in 1972, one of the first vineyards in San Luis Obispo, this wine is made with a grape called Valdiguié – known for a while as Napa Gamay although there is no genetic relation. This jumps out of the glass like candy in wine form! Raspberry and watermelon Airheads and a hint of Red Vines. Serve chilled and experience a nostalgic crunchy candy freshness and a surprisingly dry, refreshing finish.

Delicious With

Similar to a Gamay or Beaujolais wine, this is an incredible cheese and charcuterie pairing! Great with salted fish like Brandade or salted cod Bacalao, crispy fried chicken, pasta with sausage or light tomato sauce, and a variety of cheeses like fresh or aged goat or sheep cheese and intense cow’s milk cheeses like Raclette or Reblochon.

Their Cred

Outward Wines is a partnership between Natalie Siddique and Ryan Pace, avid rock climbers and winemakers. They’re focused on producing small-lot, site-specific wines from California’s Central Coast, primarily sourcing fruit from Santa Barbara County. All of the vineyards are farmed using sustainable, organic, or biodynamic practices. In the cellar they minimize inputs throughout the winemaking process to give the wine a true sense of time and place. They use spontaneous yeast to carry out fermentations, and bottle without fining or filtration where possible. Natalie and Ryan push themselves out of their comfort zones in the outdoors (they are incredible rock climbers!), working with new vineyards, and challenging their approach to winemaking. Outward is their ever-evolving winemaking adventure.
