Bring on all the fresh herbs and tangy fresh goat cheeses pairings with this beauty of a Chenin. This special wine comes from Shell Creek Vineyard, planted in 1972, which was among the first vineyards planted in San Luis Obispo County. This remote vineyard of Paso Robles sits beneath limestone cliffs featuring marine fossils after which the vineyard was named. These are truly special old vines! Drinks like delicate fresh pressed quince with a dusting of ginger under blooming white flowers. It's Spring in a bottle!
Delicious With
Shellfish, grilled fish, goat cheese salads, roast chicken, and pork with a grated ginger or poached pears. It thrives alongside creamy sauces or dishes with moderate heat and fresh herbs.
Their Cred
Outward Wines is the brainchild of Ryan Pace and Natalie Siddique, a pair whose partnership began not in the vineyard, but on a rock face-they met through rock climbing and quickly discovered a shared passion for adventure and wine. Natalie, is a rock climbing celebrity and former business owner, while Ryan comes from a winemaking family and studied at Cal Poly before cutting his teeth at Byron winery. Outward started with just two barrels of Syrah from Ryan’s father’s backyard vineyard, but now it’s their full-time pursuit, producing about 2,500 cases a year from single-vineyard, organically farmed sites along California’s Central Coast. They farm some of their own vines and source others, always with a focus on low-intervention, wild-yeast fermentations and no fining or filtration. Their Grover Beach winery is also a gathering spot for vinyl and wine parties, reflecting their love of music, community, and good times.
Both winemaking teams are united by a sense of curiosity, a commitment to organic farming, and a love for the unconventional-making wines that are as expressive and adventurous as their own journeys.
