This Demeter-certified biodynamic rosé is Pinot Noir from wind-cooled Van Duzer Corridor sites, harvested early for lift and pale pink color. Fermentation starts spontaneously and finishes in bottle as a traditional pét-nat. The wine is released unfined and unfiltered under crown cap for a fun casual feel for these expertly crafted bubbles. It is brisk and bone-dry, with strawberry and pink grapefruit, a hint of rhubarb, and a lightly saline finish.
Note: Pétillant Naturel (or "Pét-Nat") is a method of producing sparkling wine, also referred to as “Methode Ancestrale”, where the carbonation occurs from bottling the wine during the primary, alcoholic fermentation – in order to capture the carbon dioxide that is being naturally released.
Delicious With
King Salmon tartare, Smoked Trout, savory bites like mushroom tartlets, mushroom rissoto, or creamy cheeses like Brie.
Their Cred
Located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, within the Van Duzer Corridor AVA, Johan Vineyards is a 175-acre certified Biodynamic estate vineyard and winery with 87 acres under vine.
Head winemaker, Morgan Beck's, journey into winemaking is anything but conventional. Growing up in Colorado, she initially pursued a degree in Finance before discovering her love for wine. After earning an Enology & Viticulture certificate in Argentina, Morgan fell in love with Pinot Noir, which inspired her to chase harvests around the globe.
Eager to deepen her expertise in organic and biodynamic viticulture, Morgan spent several growing seasons with a vineyard management team in Sonoma and Napa. Upon returning to the cellar, she embraced 'low-manipulation' winemaking techniques, finding her true calling in Oregon. The quality and expression of the fruit she encountered solidified biodynamic practices as the foundation of her winegrowing philosophy.
Assistant Winemaker, Beth Herron’s, passion for wine began in Boston, where she managed bars and restaurants and developed a love for food, wine, and hospitality. After earning her WSET Level 3 certification, Beth moved to Oregon to work harvest and quickly fell in love with the Willamette Valley’s vibrant wine community.
Her commitment to sustainable winemaking deepened during her time with a biodynamic producer in Hungary, where she gained hands-on experience and a greater appreciation for environmentally conscious farming.
Vineyard manager, Nathan Wood, has a lifelong love affair with grapevines. Growing up in the vineyards of Rutherford, CA, alongside his father and grandfather, he developed a passion for winemaking that took him around the globe over a decade-long career.
After earning a spot with some of the most respected vineyard crews in California and honing his skills as a field worker (and yes, it takes a lot of squats to sucker an acre of grapevines), Nathan developed a passion for integrative management and holistic agriculture. His inspiration stems not just from his family heritage as a farmer but also from his extensive experience working in wineries. Always the dedicated field worker, you will often find Nathan either playing in the mud, on a tractor, or looking for lambs to pet.
