This wine is historic, and a bit of a local celebrity. From a Southern French winery, it’s a blend of all the regional grapes – Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan. The family that grows and makes this wine, the Goumards, meticulously farm the vineyard and perform their alchemy in the cellar to create a kind of magically pleasing red blend. A little cherry, herb, and a dusting of pepper; it’s one of those that hits all the marks – plush, ripe, still a little tension, and delightfully drinkable.

Delicious With

Roasted chicken with olives and a simply dressed green salad, pâté on olive oil grilled bread, lamb kabobs with charred red bell pepper, or beef with broccoli.

Their Cred

Isabelle and Vincent Goumard, the current owners, farmers and winemakers of Mas Cal Demoura, have dutifully carried on the tradition of their predecessor. In 1970, when there was a great exodus from the Languedoc region, Jean-Pierre Jullien named his domaine “Cal Demoura”, which in Occitan means “one must remain.” He eventually sold off a portion of his vineyards and retained only the best 12 acres. With these, he began making a wine of regal dimensions that helped to lead the qualitative revolution in the Languedoc. In 2004, Jean-Pierre retired, selling the estate to its current owners, Isabelle and Vincent Goumard.  This young couple, having studied oenology in Dijon, spent a year working side by side with Jean-Pierre in the vineyard and in the cellar, before taking full control of the estate.
