Silvio Morando is a renowned "Grignolino Wizard" from Piedmont, Italy. Their family vineyard has specialized in Grignolino wines for five generations. This thin skinned variety is characteristically pale in color, with a thirst-quenchingly bright acidity and noticeable tannins - which amounts to a charming, highly drinkable bushel of fresh strawberry, herbs, spices, and rose petals. Drink slightly chilled.

Delicious With

Salumi & Charcuterie, Bagna Cauda (a traditional Piedmontese warm sauce made of anchovies, garlic, and olive oil pairs excellently with the wine's acidity). Tomato-Based Pastas & Pizzas, Roasted/Grilled Vegetables. Pairs beautifully with seafood. Try it with crab, salmon, or fried seafood appetizers. Fantastic match for duck or roasted turkey with cranberry sauce. Soft & Semi-Hard Cheeses: Think goat cheese (chèvre), mild blue cheese, or creamy Gruyère.

Their Cred

Azienda Agricola Silvio Morando is a family-run estate spanning five generations in the rolling hills of Vignale Monferrato, Italy. For over 25 years, the family has championed organic and biodynamic farming to protect the health of their soil and showcase authentic regional varietals.

The Morando family's history dates back over four centuries, when their ancestors journeyed from Sardegna to Piemonte via Corsica. It was Silvio's great-great-grandfather who set the family on the path to winemaking, revitalizing their land by removing phylloxera-ridden vineyards and replanting with renewed purpose.

Today, Silvio carries that legacy forward with boundless passion, not only for his family’s deep-rooted history but also for the land itself. The Morando estate sits in a region renowned as the home of the Grignolino grape, and few understand this variety better than Silvio. His dedication to farming and winemaking has earned him the nickname “The Grignolino Wizard”—a title well deserved for his ability to coax out the full complexity and character of this notoriously finicky grape.

Silvio runs the estate alongside his wife, Tiziana, whom he met while studying at the oenological school in Alba. Together with their three children—Nicolò, Camilla, and Rebecca—they uphold the family’s commitment to producing wines that honor their land, their heritage, and their craft.

Vineyards and winemaking:
For over 25 years, the Morando family has been committed to organic farming, cultivating 15 hectares of vineyards just outside Vignale Monferrato, planted with Barbera, Grignolino, and Bonarda. More recently, they have begun experimenting with biodynamic techniques, always striving to grow the best fruit while preserving the health of their soils.

Their approach to winemaking is low intervention but guided by modern techniques and skill, particularly when working with Grignolino, a notoriously complex grape to handle. Their wines are aged in stainless steel, allowing the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir to shine.

Beyond winemaking, their mission is clear—they see themselves as true guardians of the territory, dedicated to maintaining the balance between tradition, sustainability, and the vitality of their land for generations to come.
