This is a bright and crushable German white wine with killer minerality. Tantalizing notes of limestone, citrus, and hints of stone fruit. Silvaner is an underrated white-wine grape used widely in western Germany, and just across the Rhine in Alsace where it is spelled Sylvaner. The variety made its way to Germany in the 17th Century, and from there to Alsace, where it became particularly popular after World War II. Crisp, clean, and delightfully drinkable.

Delicious With

A variety of vegetables and herbs pair well with the wine's herbal, forest notes like asparagus, fresh salad greens, and mint. Great with seafood, especially shellfish like oysters, clams, and scallops. Also flexes with heartier German fare like onion tart, sauerkraut, and sausages.

Their Cred

A known pioneer in Germany's organic winemaking community, Helmut Christ adopted organic practices in his vineyards in 1974. Later, after heeding the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, he began to look at his estate as a whole organism. In this view, it was only when each variable of the farm is supported can one create true wines of character and superior quality.

The 9.5-hectare property has been Demeter certified (aka biodynamic) since 2006. Helmut's son Michael now heads the winery, and is injecting some playfulness into their traditional winemaking style, allowing us to enjoy wines with flavor profiles that are typical of the region, as well as some more experimental cuvées.
