This is the second rosé Kermit Lynch (famous importer of French and European wines) ever imported in the 70s. It’s hard to believe that Kermit had to pull out every stop for years to convince clients (largely pink-wine skeptics) that top-notch and terroir-driven rosé had as much to offer as their beloved rouges and blancs. Year after year, winemaker Kevin Fontaine produces a rosé from Cabernet Franc that is simultaneously delicate and full of flavor. He is able to harness the juice from directly pressed grapes and guide it slowly through long fermentations at cooler temperatures in stainless steel tanks, which preserve the wine’s freshness and bright berry notes.

Pairs well with seafood like grilled shrimp or herb-crusted salmon, fresh salads such as Caprese salad, or creamy cheeses like goat cheese and brie. Its herbal notes complement roasted chicken and Mediterranean dishes, while its juicy flavors pair beautifully with prosciutto-wrapped melon or tomato tarts.

Their Cred

Charles Joguet, a young painter and sculptor, abandoned a budding art career to assume direction of the family domaine in 1957. He began to question the common practice of selling grapes to negociants, as his family had done for years. The Joguets owned prime vineyard land between the Loire and Vienne Rivers with distinct variations in the soils. To sell the grapes or vinify the individualized plots together would have been madness. Separate terroirs, Charles believed, necessitate separate vinifications. He took the risks necessary to master single-vineyard bottling with an artistry that the town of Chinon had never before seen. Charles has since retired and today, the eager and talented Kevin Fontaine oversees the vineyards and the cellars.
