Viscous and silky in the mouth, with a hint of citrus flower, and apricots drizzled in honey. This wine is not sweet, but the fruit really shines. It’s like biting into a perfectly ripe stone fruit with a hint of tropical citrus. A version of this blend is common in French Rhône white wines, but this one has a characteristically California brightness to it. There is a richness to the wine, without it being waxy as some French Roussanne/Viognier blends can have.
This wine pairs similarly to a chardonnay in that it has major body - so think cream sauces, rich seafood dishes, pâté, or even a loaded fried chicken sandwich is the way to go!
Press Gang is a project from Lompoc-native, Kyle Knapp. He grew up working in the meat department of a local grocery store and took an interest in wine – seeing all the different styles arriving behind-the-scenes at the store. He dove in, worked his first harvest at a local winery, Beckman, then headed to Australia, then back to Cali for two years and four harvests. Kyle had ‘caught the wine bug’ and started his own project, Press Gang, in 2010. Impressively, his day job is head winemaker at Stolpman (now locally famous for their ‘Love you Bunches’ wine), and this side-project is where he gets to make the wines he wants to drink.
