Made in the style of a Provencal rosé, this wine is like orange peel and grapefruit blossom. Pale in color, with a slight, not-quite-sparkling zip to it. Winemaker, Kyle Knapp, lets this wine go through a slight fermentation in the bottle to create a light mouthfeel and ‘pop’ to it. (Shake the bottle a bit and you’ll see.) A Lompoc, California native, Kyle made this wine for his wedding. He wanted something people could drink during a warm summer night.
The labels are all inspired by the ocean – Kyle is a big surfer. You should Google him, he survived an attack by a 16-foot great white shark!
This is fun with finger food because it’s so light and refreshing. Light milky cheeses - like mozzarella or goat cheese - pickles, charcuterie, basically anything that goes well with socializing and not wanting to cook dinner.
Press Gang is a project from Lompoc-native, Kyle Knapp. He grew up working in the meat department of a local grocery store and took an interest in wine – seeing all the different styles arriving behind the scenes at the store. He dove in, worked his first harvest at a local winery, Beckman, then headed to Australia, then back to Cali for two years and four harvests. Kyle had ‘caught the wine bug’ and started his own project, Press Gang, in 2010. Impressively, his day job is head winemaker at Stolpman (now locally famous for their ‘Love you Bunches’ wine), and this side-project is where he gets to make the wines he wants to drink.
