Domaine du Petit Gueyrot 2009

A Bordeaux that jumps out of the glass

This wine is so perfectly ready to drink now! Typically, you should give a wine with over a decade of age on it ample time to open (3-5 hours), but this baby jumps out of the bottle ready to be enjoyed. At first crack, this wine is layered with a very mature richness about her – intensely flavored like a prune versus a plum. There’s also a surprising freshness – cut hay, aromatic tea leaves, a bundle of dried flowers. A dusty finish keeps this lingering on the palate.

Delicious With

A delicate Bordeaux like this is wonderful with strong pungent cheeses – they don’t compete. Try a Saint-Nectaire, which can be found on most cheese plates in Saint Emilion, or any nutty semi-hard cheese available. Since the tannins have softened considerably, and the acid is still bright, this wine also pairs wonderfully with tomato dishes like pizza, pasta, and tomato-based stews.

Their Cred

Domaine du Petit Gueyrot is a generations-old property and vineyard now stewarded by Christian Neycenssas (locally known as “Kiki”). He still farms, makes wine, and lives in a most traditional way. Known to set out on hunting trips in the woods a foot for days with his loyal dog, Kiki passionately upholds the tradition in everything. His wines reflect the rustic elegance of Saint Emilion, known as the oldest and most picturesque region in Bordeaux.
