Smith Story Wines | Lord Sandwich Red Wine
A delicious way to donate
We’re in love with this wine and its mission (and mascot!). From husband and wife team, Eric and Ali Story, this Bordeaux red blend (meaning it’s made with the traditional grapes of Bordeaux France, Cabernet, Merlot, and Cab Franc), is just the kind of big serious red you want in your glass this time of year. Packed with gorgeous Sonoma wine country fruit, there is a black cherry and warm baking spice punch to this wine.
Marked by four paws on the back label, SocksforSandwich.org was created by Ali and Eric to help families in need with new sock donations. Their adorable and comically large Goldendoodle, Lord Sandwich, is the face of the foundation. In this 4th release, for every bottle sold, $1 will also be donated towards “Angel Medical Services” to the Humane Society of Sonoma County. #Givingisfun
Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Since Cabernet is the dominant grape in this blend, there’s a ton of structure to pair with heartier foods – rich or aged cheeses, bacon burgers, roasted potatoes, onions, and peppers, beef stew, filet mignon, or a tender ribeye steak. Also great with mushroom gravy or risotto.
Founder, Christine, met Ali in the wine business in Austin, TX in the early 2000s. At the time, Ali had started one of the first female-founded wine brokerage companies in the business. She specialized in wines from all over the world: France, Argentina, California, and sake from Japan (which started Christine’s obsession with sake, but that’s a different story). Ali met her now husband, Eric, then the buyer for K & L Wines, and a Bay-area authority in wine retail. In 2014 they launched a Kickstarter for their winery and were fully funded in 30 days. Later that year, along with their dear Goldendoodle, Lord Sandwich, Ali founded a non-profit Socks For Sandwich, which donates new socks to those in need. Smith Story Wines are made with respect for the land, kindness for the grower and, love from the winemaker. Each vineyard they work with is family-owned. Their wines are classic, showcasing what these grapes can taste like if well-crafted. Also, Ali and Eric do everything, literally everything, themselves from winemaking to running the tasting room, wine club, and sales. True triple threats and really good people.
