Tannat is the French-est of grapes. It’s dark and intense, but also refined with well-tailored, clean edges. There is a richness of flavor without any hint of heaviness. Like Redwoods in the forest – elegant giants quietly cooling the floor below. Tannat originates in Southwestern France, in a cool region just south of Bordeaux called Madiran.

Delicious With

Beef, sausage, cassoulet, roasted lamb, duck confit, and aged cheeses, like Roquefort or Chaumes, will soften the tannins and amplify the rich vibe of the food itself.

Their Cred

Olivier and Floriane Azan bought Petit Roubié in 1981 and converted to organic farming in 1995. Today, surprisingly enough, Petit Roubié is still the only certified organic domain in the Picpoul de Pinet appellation.  The village lies between the modern day autoroute and the Bassin de Thau, a lagoon of the Mediterranean that is famous nowadays for its mussel and oyster farms, near the town of fishing town of Sète. Although the region is most famously known for a white wine called Picpoul de Pinet, Olivier planted a parcel of this red grape, Tannat, in the early 2000’s. He is as proud as punch that the wine from his grapes pays tribute to the famously dark, intense wines of it’s origin in Southwest France.
