Domaine Alain Jeanniard | 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin
Enviable grace and power
This wine is like the most intelligent, well-traveled, charming teenager you’ve ever met. It’s bold in a way that signals a bright and long future of greatness. The confidence in this wine is astounding – zero stage fright, but not naive; still fully aware of its power and charisma. Pinot Noirs from this famous region are known as the most powerful, rich, and meaty in all of Burgundy. Although still very much in its youth, this wine delivers all of its fruit right away. With age, more savory, meaty, leathery flavors will develop, but for now this wine explodes like a first bite of a violet-scented cherry pocket pie. Massive yet velvet-smooth.

Our Best Advice
Buy some to drink now, and some to squirrel away for like 5-10 years from now
This is a wine for meat-eaters, its gamey notes giving it a particular affinity for game, whether furred or feathered. It also goes superbly well with ribeye steak and braised lamb (we encourage you to experiment with slow cooked lamb!). Also fabulous with bolder fish varieties like salmon, trout or tuna. This wine loves to be paired with strong cow-milk cheeses, in particular, a famous wash-rind cheese called Époisses.
Jeanniard has been a family of viticulture (wine growing) since 1755, so they’re well versed in the nuances between each appellation in Burgundy. For the past 20 years, Domaine Jeanniard has slowly grown its vineyard holdings and farming and now make wine from 17 acers, across 10 appellations. Despite the wide variety of wines they make, total production is only about 3,000 cases – meaning each bottling totals just a couple hundred cases at most.
